Cotton Architecture + Design is a Phoenix based firm with experience and projects in healthcare, institutional, civic, commercial, retail, hospitality, industrial and multi-family/residential projects nationally.
Cotton Architecture + Design was founded by Steve Goodman, AIA and Ryan Short, AIA to be a relationship driven and collaborative design practice. We strive to work with collaborative, like-minded individuals and groups, including Clients, Design / Construction Team Members, Municipalities and extended project stakeholders, who have a mutual respect and trust in each other and approach each project with a passion and hunger for shared success. Our clients value design executed with a high level of sensitivity, pragmatic approaches, technical expertise and hands on principal involvement, regardless of the scale.
We pride ourselves in creating the best projects that are developed through a collaborative process and by aligning a group of partners who do AMAZING things and consistently do them well.
Our Focus
With experience in healthcare design spanning over two decades, across numerous facility and practice / provider types, from the mid-west to the west coast, we have developed an understanding of healthcare facility planning and design. With approximately 70% of our projects rooted in healthcare, Cotton Architecture + Design is a healthcare focused firm.
Efficiency is a key driver in how we approach each project. From patient flow to staff travel distances, to project financial proformas and constructability, our understanding of each of these metrics results in a focused, well-thought out and successful project that makes us a desired partner by everyone involved.

Partnering on developer driven projects outside of healthcare has provided us with expertise in understanding project budget targets and opportunities to achieve speed to market delivery.
Our experience working as trusted partners directly with General Contractors and Construction Managers has allowed us insight and understanding into project constructability which is integral to our designs resulting in efficient project budgets and schedules.
